Maharashtra government is working on a new maritime development policy to boost port infrastructure and coastal shipping, State’s Minister for Fisheries and Port Development, Nitesh Rane said at the FICCI Maritime India conference in Mumbai on Monday

“It will be the most investment friendly policy with a single window clearance mechanism,” Rane said in his investment pitch.

Maharashtra is competing with Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu to build ports, attract shipyards and develop coastal shipping networks. Last month the State government signed a MOU with Mazagon Dock to develop ₹26,000 crore worth shipyard in the state.

Rane said the government is keen to attract ancillary industries to develop maritime eco-system and is also in talks with Dutch companies for development of minor ports. He said the government is developing water transport system in Mumbai Metropolitan Region and same is expected to be ready in 2028.
